AIT-SCM’s Disaster Response Community Network Plan

We re-root people in the wisdom of our Indigenous traditions and American Indian ancestry so families may rediscover cultural values such as interdependence, family unity and accessible healing modalities that are so imperative at this time.

For Local Business Owners:

Thank you for your support in preparing community members for potential power outages and helping to keep San Antonians safe this summer. In the event that there is another power grid failure, your promise to join a network of others like yourself in providing necessary resources to the community will significantly reduce the loss of life in a state of natural disaster. In the winter of 2021, our power grid sustained significant damage in the wake of Winter Storm Uri. This demonstrated the weaknesses of our state power grid. Even without summer power outages, San Antonians die due to heat every year. The likelihood of mass outages in record high heat is a real threat to the safety of many of our most at-risk community members. By contributing your assistance to this network of emergency response community members, your business will be included in a publication that will be distributed into vulnerable neighborhoods who can can rely on our guide in the event of another mass-prolonged power outage. In an emergency, this will help distribute the weight of potential influxes of crowds to fewer areas and guide people to more accessible locations throughout the city. By providing a map of emergency locations for resources and help, our goal is to reduce panic, instill confidence by means of preparation, reduce hospital visits, and save lives.

This form will help us collect information about what specific resources you can provide. We are in search of varying means of support, of which all are crucial to our efforts to respond to a widespread emergency situation. Thank you so much for letting us, your community, know that we may count on you in times of desperate need. You are vital to what makes this city thrive in the face of what may otherwise be significant trauma to our San Antonio communities, who have already endured so much.
